A little story.

Sometime ago, I visited a website of a WordPress plugin intended to buy the pro version. I noticed every single part of the homepage and everything was good.

The layout was nice and the color scheme was joyful to watch.

But after I reached the bottom area, the footer, there was something that got me in doubt. The copyright year was not updated.

It still showed the year “2024” while we are now living in 2026.

Physiologically, when someone visits a website and they find that the copyright year on the footer is not updated, they will think that the website is no longer maintained.

Or even worse, they may think that the business is no longer running.

A website is a representation of a business. And when the business represented by it is still running, then it’s crucial to keep the copyright year on the footer updated.

You, as the developer or designer (or whatever you call yourself), have the responsibility to handle the job.

But you don’t need to update it manually

Elementor has a feature to allow you to work smartly regarding the copyright year update. Instead of editing the footer on every December or January only to update the year (assuming you don’t forget 🫢), you can use Dynamic Tags to update the copyright year automatically.

When you do this, the copyright year on the footer will automatically change once the year changes. No more manual work.

Here is how.

First, edit your footer and add the Text Editor widget (you can use the Paragraph element if already switched to v4). Click the Dynamic Tags icon and select Current Date Time.

Then, click the wrench icon and set the date format to Custom. Type "Y" on the Custom Format field to display only the year.

For additional information (such as copyright symbol and your site name), you can open the Advanced block.
